Wi-Fi 6 (or IEEE 802.11ax) is the latest IEEE 802.11 standard for wireless communication. Whether it is a mere upgradation over its predecessors or a revolution, can only be known after its widespread implementation takes place. As per industry experts, the technology of new Wi-Fi standard is 40% faster, more reliable and a dependable network connection for seamless user experience. It improves battery efficiency and has better coverage which makes it an ideal candidate for implementation in IoT devices. It’s not just the speed enhancement that is grabbing the attention of the Telecom Giants, but it’s the ability to handle the exponential rise in device density in the congested areas, which makes it stand out. Wi-Fi 6 achieves these advantages using advanced technologies such as 1024-QAM, MU-MIMO, Beamforming, and OFDMA. The standard is nearing its finalization & ratification, and Wi-Fi Alliance started certification of Wi-Fi 6 enabled devices in September, 2019. The major contributors to the 802.11ax task group are Qualcomm, Intel, Marvell, Huawei, and Mediatek.
